 *By the Act passed August 31, 1868, to amend the Charter of the City of New York, the Aldermanic and Councilmanic Districts, created for this city by the Charter of 1867, were abolished, and thereafter the Aldermen and Assistant Aldermen are to be elected to represent the State Assembly Districts in the Common Council: by the same act, the office of Councilman was abolished, and that of Assistant Alderman re-created.

First District

Consists of all that part of the city south of a line drawn from the Hudson river through the center of Canal street to Broadway, down Broadway to the intersection of Park row and Broadway, thence through Park row to Spruce street, through Spruce street to Gold street, through Gold street to Ferry street, through Ferry street to Peck slip, thence through Peck slip to the East river, including Governor's, Ellis,' and Bedloe's Islands in the bay, belonging to the city and within its jurisdiction.

Second District

It is bounded southerly and westerly by the First District, thence through Walker street to Elm street, through Elm street to White street, through White street to Baxter street through Baxter street to Bayard street, through Bayard street to the Bowery, down the Bowery to Catharine street, thence down Catharine street to the East river, and easterly by the river.

Third District

It is bounded southerly by the Second District, thence up Broadway to Houston street, through Houston street to the Bowery, down the Bowery to Bayard street.

Fourth District

It is bounded southerly by the Second District, thence up Division street to Grand street, down Grand street to the East river, and easterly by the river.

Fifth District

It is bounded southerly by the First District, thence up Broadway to Houston street, through Houston street to MacDougal street, through MacDougal street to Amity street, through Amity street to Sixth avenue, down Sixth avenue, through Carmine street, to Bleecker street, through Bleecker street to Leroy street, and down Leroy street to the Hudson river, and westerly by the river.

Sixth District

It is bounded southerly by the Fourth District, thence through Norfolk street to Rivington street, down Rivington street to the East river, and easterly by the river.

Seventh District

It is bounded southerly by the Third and Fifth Districts, thence up the Bowery to Fourteenth street, through Fourteenth street to Sixth avenue, up the Sixth avenue to Sixteenth street, down Sixteenth street to the Eighth avenue, down the Eighth avenue to Greenwich avenue, through Greenwich avenue to the Sixth avenue, and through Sixth avenue to Amity street.


Eighth District

It is bounded southerly by the Fourth District, westerly, by the Third District, thence through Stanton street to Clinton street, through Clinton street to Houston street, down Houston street to the East river, thence by the river to Rivington street, down Rivington street to Norfolk street, and down Norfolk street to Division street.

Ninth District

It is bounded southerly by the Fifth District, easterly by the Seventh District, thence through Sixteenth street to the Hudson river, and westerly by the river.

Tenth District

It is bounded southerly by the Eighth District, thence through Clinton street to Avenue B, through Avenue B to Seventh street, through Seventh street to the Bowery, and down the Bowery to Stanton street.

Eleventh District

It is bounded southerly by the Seventh District, thence through Fourth avenue to Twenty-sixth street, through Twenty-sixth street to Madison avenue, through Madison avenue to Fortieth street, down Fortieth street to Sixth avenue, down the Sixth avenue to Thirty-second street, down Thirty-second street to Ninth avenue, down Ninth avenue to Twenty-sixth street, through Twenty-sixth street to Sixth avenue, and thence through the Sixth avenue to Fourteenth street.

Twelfth District

It is bounded southerly by the Eighth District, thence through Avenue B to Fourteenth street, down Fourteenth street to the East river, and easterly by the river.

Thirteenth District

It is bounded southerly by the Seventh and Ninth Districts, thence through the Sixth avenue to Twenty-sixth street, down Twenty-sixth street to the Hudson river, and westerly by the river.

Fourteenth District

It is bounded southerly by the Tenth District, easterly by the Twelfth District, westerly by the Seventh District, thence through Fourteenth street from the Bowery to Avenue B.

Fifteenth District

It is bounded southerly by the Thirteenth District, thence through Ninth avenue to Thirty-second street, easterly by the Eleventh District, thence through Fortieth street to the Hudson river, and westerly by the river.

Sixteenth District

It is bounded southerly by the Twelfth, Fourteenth, and Seventh Districts, thence through Fourth avenue to Twenty-sixth street, down Twenty-sixth street to the East river, and easterly by the river.

Seventeenth District

It is bounded southerly by the Fifteenth District, thence up the Sixth avenue to Fifty-fifth street, through Fifty-fifth street to the Hudson river, and westerly by the river.

Eighteenth District

It is bounded southerly by the Sixteenth and Eleventh Districts, westerly by the Eleventh District, thence through Fortieth street to the East river, and easterly by the river.

Nineteenth District

It is bounded southerly by the Seventeenth District, thence through Sixth avenue to Fifty-ninth street, thence through Fifty-ninth street to the Fifth avenue, up the Fifth avenue to One Hundred and Tenth street, down One Hundred and Tenth street to the Eighth avenue, up the Eighth avenue to the Harlem river, by the Harlem river to Kingsbridge, by Spuyten Duyvil creek to the Hudson river, and westerly by the river.

Twentieth District

It is bounded southerly by the Eighteenth and Eleventh Districts, westerly by the Seventeenth and Nineteenth Districts, thence down Seventieth street to the East river, and easterly by the river, including Blackwell's Island in the East river, belonging to the city and within its jurisdiction.

Twenty-First District

It is bounded southerly by the Twentieth District, westerly by the Nineteenth District, easterly by the Harlem river, from Seventieth street to the intersection of Eighth avenue and the river, including Ward's and Randall's Islands.
