Society of Colonial Wars In The State of New York

The Society of Colonial Wars in the State of New York, the first society organized, was instituted August 18, 1892, and incorporated October 18, 1892. The First General Court and dinner was held at Delmonico's, December 19, 1892, and the Second General Court and dinner at the Hotel Waldorf, December 19, 1893. The Third General Court was held at the Hotel Waldorf, December 19, 1894, and the annual dinner held there February 11, 1895. The Fourth General Court was held at the same place, December 19, 1895.

During the year the Society was officially represented at the dinners of the Cincinnati, Sons of the American Revolution, Order of Foreign Wars, Saint Nicholas, Saint Andrew, Saint George, New England, Holland, and Southern Societies, and Order of the Acorn, and at the church service of the Sons of the Revolution. The Society held its first church service March 24, 1895, in commemoration of the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the departure of the troops for Louisbourg.

The flag of the Society consists of the red cross of St. George on a white field, with the arms of the Province of New Netherland on the center, surmounted by the Dutch ducal crown.

The membership clause in the Constitution has been amended, so that legislative service unaccompanied by military record, and collateral descent, no longer constituted eligibility, and the membership is hereditary when the limit of seven hundred members is reached.
